Find Help Preserving
Your Vision

We can help preserve your vision throughout your life!

As we age, our eyes are at risk for developing refractive errors such as myopia, presbyopia, astigmatism, or diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration.

Eye exams help us catch these issues early in their development, allowing you to respond to them with our expertise. But no matter your age or vision diagnosis, Rising Star Optometry can help you see your best!

The first step is to book your appointment. Contact us today to book yours!

Why Should You Have an Eye Exam?

Eye exams do so much more than help your optometrist determine the prescriptions you need for your contacts or eyewear; they are crucial to detecting and assessing eye issues that could rob you of your vision.

Eye Exams Help Protect Your Vision

Diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and more, can develop over time without exhibiting any symptoms. However, as they progress, they can start damaging essential parts of your eye, causing vision loss.

Because of this risk, the American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends people between 18 and 64 have an eye exam every 2 years to detect these issues. If you’re over 65 or are at risk of developing an eye disease, the AOA recommends having an annual eye exam.

When Are You At-Risk?

You may be at risk of developing issues if you:

  • Have a family history of eye disease and conditions.
  • Have medical conditions that could affect your eye health.
  • Take medications with possible side effects that affect your eyes.
  • Have had past eye surgeries.
  • Have had past eye injuries.
  • Have a high refractive error like myopia or hyperopia.

The Eye Exam: What Can You Expect?

Before starting the eye exam, we’ll have a conversation about your overall health, family health, and eye health history. This chat is to help us orientate the exam to meet your specific needs and goals.

Please, feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have! We love having our patients take an active part in their eye care, so any extra information you can provide will help us serve you to the best of our abilities.

Once we’ve reviewed your medical history and answered your questions, we’ll start with the rest of the exam.

Following our initial conversation, we’ll start testing your visual strength and acuity. This part of the exam allows us to determine what prescription your eyes need (if at all) for your glasses or contact lenses. Some of the most common ways we determine this is with a computerized eye chart and phoropter.

Once we have your prescription, the next step is to screen your eyes for signs of disease.

Many eye diseases are asymptomatic in their early stages, but they can rob you of your vision as they develop. To help catch these diseases early, we include an eye health screening in every eye exam we perform.

We screen for many common eye diseases, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and more!

At the very end of the appointment, we’ll discuss our findings with you and provide any medications, prescriptions, or treatments you need to enjoy your vision with comfort and confidence.
