A complete eye examination is given that includes an assessment of visual acuity, refractive error (hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism), eye muscle balance at far and near, smooth tracking, tracking eye movements in reading, near focusing and fusion skills, depth perception, and color vision testing.
For children with learning difficulties, the exam often includes screening tests of visual and auditory perceptual skills. A Visagraph Analysis of reading eye movements is also completed.
This exam and consultation usually takes about 1&1/2 hours. If eye drops are required to determine the full refractive error, the patient is usually rescheduled for a second, shorter visit. A written report with diagnosis and recommendations is given.
Occasionally a follow-up dilated examination (see below) will be recommended based on the findings of our Visual Efficiency Exam.
DILATED EYE HEALTH EXAM WITH REFRACTION
We perform a complete examination of the structures and function of the eyes. This often requires special drops to be used to relax the normal constriction of the pupil (which would prevent proper examination of the internal structures of the eyes. Occasionally stronger drops will be used (especially with young children) that not only relax [MORE]
