Adult Eye Exams at Rising Star Optometry

At Rising Star Optometry, we also offer specialized therapy programs to help manage and improve vision for conditions like amblyopia, nystagmus, and certain types of strabismus.

Protect Your Vision

Routine eye exams are crucial for detecting eye diseases before they cause irreversible damage. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends adults between 18 and 64 schedule an eye exam every two years, and annual exams for those 65 and older or at higher risk.

THE EYE EXAM: WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

We use the latest diagnostic technology to look for eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration that can develop without symptoms. By identifying potential issues early, we can help prevent vision loss and ensure that your eyes stay healthy. If you're at risk due to family history, age, or existing health conditions, regular exams are crucial.

  • Initial discussion

Before starting the eye exam, we’ll have a conversation about your overall health, family health, and eye health history. This is the most valuable time during the exam as this discussion is to help us orient the exam to address your symptoms and meet your specific needs and goals.

  • Visual acuity & visual skills

After our initial discussion, we’ll begin the exam. Initial testing includes visual acuity to determine if you may need a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. This is typically done using tools like a computerized eye chart and a phoropter. We also test your basic visual reflexes including smooth pursuits, saccades, extraocular motility, eye alignment, convergence and focusing ability, pupils, and peripheral vision.

Once your prescription is established, we’ll move on to screening your eyes for any signs of disease.

  • Eye Health Screening

Many eye diseases are asymptomatic in their early stages, but they can rob you of your vision as they develop. To help catch these diseases early, we include an eye health screening in every eye exam we perform.

We screen for many common eye diseases, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and more! We have recently added the Optos Optomap retinal imaging to both of our offices to aid in diagnosis. Finally, your exam will also include a Lifemeter skin carotenoid analysis. Low carotenoid levels are associated with poor night vision, glare sensitivity, headaches and eyestrain, and lower disease resistance.

  • Findings & Discussion

At the very end of the appointment, we’ll discuss our findings with you and provide any medications, prescriptions, or treatments you need to enjoy your vision with comfort and confidence.

Are You At Risk?

You may be at higher risk for eye issues if you:

Have a family history of eye disease

Have medical conditions or medications that affect your eyes

Have had previous eye surgeries or injuries

Struggle with refractive errors like myopia or hyperopia

Comprehensive Eye Care for Your Child

Our optometrists spend the entire appointment with your child, carefully looking for early signs of vision problems. We believe in offering unique, specialized services like vision therapy to give your child the best care possible.

Early Detection is Key

Children often don’t realize when their vision is worsening. That’s why it's important to book regular eye exams to catch any issues early. Let Rising Star Optometry help guide your child’s eye development and set them up for a lifetime of healthy vision.

When Should Your Child Have an Eye Exam?

Infant (6 to 24 months)

You should book your child’s first eye exam between 6 months and 1 year old to ensure their eyes are developing properly

Pre-school (2 to 5 years)

Your child’s next eye exam should be at age 3 to check for conditions that can cause permanent vision issues if untreated.

School age (6 to 18 years)

Your child should have yearly eye exams from school age to 18 to detect and treat vision issues like myopia or strabismus

Contact Lens Exams at Rising Star Optometry

At Rising Star Optometry, we offer thorough contact lens exams to ensure your eyes get the perfect fit. While many practices are limited by insurance restrictions, we go beyond these constraints to provide the best possible care for your eyes.

Find the Perfect Fit for Your Eyes

If you're looking for an alternative to glasses, contact lenses may be the ideal solution. Whether you live an active lifestyle, play sports, or simply want clearer, more comfortable vision, we’re here to help you choose the right contact lenses.
