Post-Concussion Vision Rehabilitation

Just like our vision therapy and sports vision programs, each post-concussion patient receives a bespoke plan of visual exercises aimed at strengthening the connection between their eyes and visual skills.

If you've experienced a concussion and are dealing with vision issues, the first step is to schedule an eye exam. During this appointment, we'll discuss your symptoms and conduct a visual efficiency assessment to better understand the extent of the problem.

The information you provide will guide us in creating a tailored rehabilitation program, which may include:

  • Therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters
  • Computerized vision games and exercises
  • Free space tracking, focusing, and convergence/divergence exercises
  • Activities to improve eye-hand coordination, balance, gaze stability, depth perception, and visual motor integration

LEARNING-RELATED VISION THERAPY

Learning-related vision therapy is a personalized program of eye exercises designed to improve visual skills that impact reading and learning. It targets issues like frequent re-reading, skipping lines, eye fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, helping children overcome visual challenges that can interfere with their academic success and daily activities.

This therapy also addresses conditions like double vision, poor comprehension, letter reversals, and squinting, building stronger visual foundations for better performance. By enhancing visual efficiency and coordination, learning-related vision therapy supports your child’s ability to focus, read comfortably, and gain confidence in school and beyond.

Signs Your Child May Need Vision Therapy

If your child struggles with reading, avoids books, or shows resistance to activities requiring eye-hand coordination, they may benefit from vision therapy. Additional signs include frequent squinting, covering one eye while reading, or difficulty maintaining focus for extended periods. These challenges can significantly impact learning and self-esteem if left unaddressed.

Our vision therapy programs are designed to meet your child’s unique needs, providing targeted solutions to help them thrive. By identifying and addressing these issues early, we can empower your child with the tools they need for better vision, improved learning, and greater confidence.

what is strabismus?

Strabismus, commonly known as crossed eyes, is a condition where the eyes are misaligned, causing one eye to aim improperly. This misalignment can lead to symptoms such as desynchronized eye movement, squinting, head tilting, difficulty navigating spaces, light sensitivity, blurred or double vision, and eyestrain. Causes include family history, head and brain injuries, high refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, cataracts, and muscle or nerve deficiencies around the eyes. Types of strabismus are classified based on the direction of the eye turn:

esotropia: eye turns inward

exotropia: eye turns outward

hypertropia and hyportropia: eye turns upward or downward

At Rising Star Optometry, we offer vision therapy programs tailored to manage strabismus symptoms and improve vision. Early intervention is crucial and can sometimes prevent the need for surgery; if surgery is necessary, therapy can enhance outcomes. Our personalized treatment plans may include therapeutic lenses, computerized vision games, tracking and focusing exercises, and activities to improve eye-hand coordination, balance, gaze stability, depth perception, and visual motor integration. These exercises aim to strengthen the visual system and muscle control, promoting the simultaneous use of both eyes. We also provide Telehealth appointments for your convenience.
