The Eye Exam: What Can You Expect?
Initial Discussion
Before starting the eye exam, we’ll have a conversation about your overall health, family health, and eye health history. This chat is to help us orientate the exam to meet your specific needs and goals.
Please, feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have! We love having our patients take an active part in their eye care, so any extra information you can provide will help us serve you to the best of our abilities.
Once we’ve reviewed your medical history and answered your questions, we’ll start with the rest of the exam.
Visual Acuity & Strength
Following our initial conversation, we’ll start testing your visual strength and acuity. This part of the exam allows us to determine what prescription your eyes need (if at all) for your glasses or contact lenses. Some of the most common ways we determine this is with a computerized eye chart and phoropter.
Once we have your prescription, the next step is to screen your eyes for signs of disease.
Eye Health Screening
Many eye diseases are asymptomatic in their early stages, but they can rob you of your vision as they develop. To help catch these diseases early, we include an eye health screening in every eye exam we perform.
We screen for many common eye diseases, including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and more!
Findings & Discussion
At the very end of the appointment, we’ll discuss our findings with you and provide any medications, prescriptions, or treatments you need to enjoy your vision with comfort and confidence.
